Welcome!
It is October already! We flew through a fantastic start to Grade 5. Thank you for the friendly welcome to Hanna and JCC! The students in my class are full of energy and enthusiasm and I am excited for our year together. Sorry for the long post! First one for the year! I do my best to have the blog updated by Friday or Monday at the latest so we are all up to date for the upcoming week!
Reminder
There will be no school this Friday the 10th or on Monday the 13th!

Terry Fox
Thank you for all of your support from home to help JCC raise money for the Terry Fox Foundation. Our class finished in the top 3 for fundraising and we still have until Wednesday to add to our total. The students did a fabulous job running/walking for Terry on Friday.
Spelling
Spelling is handed out every Monday and is due by Friday morning at the latest. Thursday is more preferable so I have time to mark it and send it home with the test! Spelling test will be Friday morning or Thursdays if there is no school on Friday.
Library
Library Day is Monday! Books are due back every Monday.
Math
Our Probability and Data Analysis Unit was quite successful and I was happy to read comments from the students expressing confidence with the material. We are moving into whole numbers to one million 1 000 000 this week. Thank you to those who have been encouraging their child to try the math games I sent home as well as other games. It will make a huge difference when we get into multiplying and dividing with larger numbers.
Check out this cool video on computer programming:
Science
We are well into out study of Weather! Currently the students have chosen one area of weather phenomena that interests them and are wrapping up a quick slideshow/emaze, or poster to share their findings.
Social Studies
We are about to begin our study of the First Nations People across the Regions of Canada. Currently we are making ourselves more familiar with the geography and important background information of Canada.
Language Arts
We are in a mini-novel study of "The One and Only Ivan", and are wrapping up our Autobiography Unit. I hope your child has been able to share their digital autobiography with you. Their collection of other activities will be coming home shortly.
Please remember that you can always e-mail or call me at the school! I am happy to answer questions.
